Input remapping
Also said as Rebinding, Custom controls, Key bindings
Letting players choose which button or key does what. Full remapping covers every action, including the menus.
Hands differ, keyboards differ, and some people physically can't reach some buttons. For them this setting decides whether they can play at all. It is also far cheaper if you plan for it from the start.
Say it
“Every action gets rebindable, including menu confirm. When a key is already taken, swap the two instead of leaving something unbound, and provide a reset.”
Where you’ve seen it
The Last of Us Part II lets you remap every command to any button, save the result under your own name, and turn held buttons into toggles and rapid tapping into a single hold.
Not to be confused with control scheme
A scheme is a ready-made layout to pick from. Remapping lets you make your own. Offering three schemes isn't the same as letting people choose.
